Last night was the VIP opening for the Breaking Bad Art Project at Gallery 1988 presented by Breaking Gifs. When I was asked to participate in this event, I was incredibly stoked about it. I really love the show and there were so many directions I could go with this one, but decided on going with something that felt a little more personal to me. Being of a superstitious hispanic background, the religious pilgrimage and shrine scene really felt familiar to the culture I grew up with. I wanted to give this piece a Mexican folk look mixed with a bit of the American-Mexican West Coast subculture. The altar adorned with what you would typically see in an altar for the dead mixed with the meth making beakers. The Glow in the Dark smoke skull over Heisenberg’s drawing was designed to look like something you’d see on the hood of a lowrider. The smoke details are wispy pin-striping and the words were inspired by cursive tattoo lettering. I really hope you enjoy my piece. I had a blast working on this one!
This is a silkscreen edition of 50 priced at $30 at Gallery 1988. The size is 16.5″ x 24″… And did I mention it GLOWS IN THE DARK?
